How to Increase Blog Traffic with Twitter

Twitter is a gold mine for bloggers! It is such a great way to generate traffic, develop relationships and get to know brands. With a few simple steps on learning about Twitter marketing and Twitter trending habits, you will be well on your way with this simple social marketing strategy.

I have been using Twitter for years for both personal and work related outlets. I have to say on the work front it provides many wonderful ways to connect with potential readers and clients. Today, I’m going to share a few tips to help you utilize your full potential with a Twitter presence.

#1 It’s NOT about your number of followers!

Hear me when I say you do want to grow your followers, but don’t get hung up on your numbers or ignore this social media outlet just because you have a small amount of followers.

Why?

The simple answer is that you can still reach hundreds of people through your tweets by using hashtags. I personally believe that hashtags are way more credible and important than say on Instagram and Facebook (again not saying they are not important on those platforms, they are just much more user friendly.)

Case in point: I needed to create a new profile (re-branding and all that) and after a few days I only had a handful of followers. It’s humbling to start from scratch, but I still wanted to utilize it. I started sharing tweets with links back to my blog and faithfully used hashtags. I had less than 40 followers, but one of my tweets reached over 100 people! It was then re-tweeted which had potential of reaching who know how many more.

#2 Get To Know Those Awesome Hashtags!

The cool thing about twitter, is when you have a topic you want to tweet about, you can start a hashtag and Twitter will give you recommendations on what to tweet. Why is this helpful? Because on that list, Twitter will let you know what hashtags are trending. This is extremely important for getting a wider audience. Try to have a least one popular hashtag on the Twitter trending bandwagon!

#3 Mix Up Your Style of Tweets

Another things that I have noticed over the years, that it is important to mix up your tweets. You don’t want every tweet to link back to your web site. Mix it up with quotes, images and then tweet back with your latest blog posts. This helps you diversify and reach an even wider potential audience. This will help you to grow your following organically.

Combine these Twitter tips with your Pinterest Marketing Strategy and you will be well on your way to building an excellent online presence.

3 Things You Need To Do Before Starting Your Blog

Starting your blog can be both an exciting and overwhelming adventure. Today, we are sharing three tips that will help you get started on a positive journey to blogging online!

#1 Figure Out Your Audience and Subject Matter

The first thing you want to do before anything else is to brainstorm the audience you hope to capture and what your ultimate subject matter will be.

A simple way to get inspiration for this is by searching Pinterest. Use the search bar to check out whether or not the subjects that you want to blog about is trending or not. You definitely want a topic that gets volume on Pinterest as it is one of the simplest ways to gain traffic even with a new blog! You can read more tips about Pinterest here.

#2 Double Check Your Domain Name Ideas

Before you register your domain name I highly recommend checking to see if you will be able to get the matching names on social media outlets. For example, if your domain name was called JaneDoeLovesChocolate, you would want to make sure that name is also available on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

You will also want to make sure it is available on Pinterest (even though it’s not a social media). This will help you set your brand up for success.

#3 Brainstorm at least 10 to 20 Posts

This can’t be stated enough: Take a few days to brainstorm post ideas and post titles. If you can start your blog out with great content right away you will be well ahead of the game! This will also look favorable on search engines.

After you’ve completed these three steps, you may be ready to start your own blog! Check out my tips for starting a blog from scratch here.

Blogging For Beginners

How to Look Like a Pro Blogger

Have you just started your blogging journey? Well, get ready to take notes as I’ve got a few tips for you today to make your blog shine like the pros!

Start With 10 to 20 Posts: Before you publish your blog to the world, take a week or two to formulate posts. Try to aim for at least 10 to 20 articles for your readers to sift through. When they click on your blog, you want them to have more than enough articles to read to keep them coming back!

Create a Killer About Page: Your about page should answer a few of your traditional “who, what, why” questions. This gives your readers an understanding of who you are and what your mission will be with your blog!

Add Photos or Graphics: Nothing makes a blog stand out quite like adding photography or graphics. I wrote a detailed blog post on how to make your blogger photos stand out here.

Share Your Story: Ultimately, give your readers THE STORY. The reason behind your why or what got you started on the path to creating your web site.

Create a Menu: One of the most frustrating things that new bloggers fail to do is to create a menu. If your readers enjoy a blog post, they will more than likely want to see what else you have to offer. Make sure your menu is near the top and well laid out. It’s a simple, yet effective way to look like a pro blogger.

10 Inspirational Quotes For Bloggers

As a blogger, it’s easy to get discouraged. Today, I’m sharing 10 quotes to encourage like minded bloggers or well, for anyone, really!

“Motivation gets you going and habits get you there.” -Zig Ziglar

I love this one so much. Habits have played a huge roll for me when it comes to many areas of my life: blogging, saving up for travel, taking care of our home, etc.

“Limitation is only your imagination.” -Uknown

I’m not sure who wrote this one, but wow what a sucker punch. If you really think about it, it is so true. The only limitations are the ones we put on ourselves.

“You are going to know failure, if you’re brave with your life.” -Brene Brown

This one speaks volumes to me. It’s so easy to live a “safe” life locked away from disappointments, but think of all the things you would miss.

“Be so good that they can’t ignore you.” -Steve Martin

What else is there to say other than HE SPEAKS TRUTH. Sorry for the all caps, but I am sure that is a message that we all need to hear.

“Work hard in silence. Let success be your noise.” -Unknown

I love this. I want to live this.

“The way to get started is to quit talking and get started.” -Walt Disney

Have you ever read up on the life of Walt Disney? The man was a walking dictionary of the world “perseverance” and look at all the joy he brought to the world. His quotes are hands down some of my favorite as a new blogger.

“Don’t let yesterday take up too much of today.” -Rogers

We all make mistakes. Learn from them and move on.

“The man who has confidence in himself gains the confidence of others.” -Uknown

This is so true and it’s one area that I am constantly working on.

“You are never too old to set a another goal or dream a new dream.” -C.S. Lewis

It doesn’t matter at what stage of life you are at, you can always set a new goal for yourself.

“Outstanding people have one thing in common: an absolute sense of mission.” -Zig Ziglar

And this last one really hits home for me. I hope it inspires you, too!

Pinterest Hacks You Should Know

Okay, I love using Pinterest! I use it for both personal and business outlets. It’s a GREAT way to grow your blog traffic!

You can use Pinterest to create menu plans, store future DIY projects, and grow traffic for your web site or blog! The list is endless.

There are two big Pinterest hacks you should know that will help you double the traffic to your blog:

Tip one: Pinterest is NOT a social media network!

This is something I’ve noticed in a lot of blogging circles. People will comment on Pinterest as being their favorite social network. Nope! It’s not. It’s actually a search engine. With that knowledge, it totally changes your game plan, doesn’t it? You’ll start to treat it differently.

Start thinking of it as a search engine instead of a social media network and it will change how you use it overall!

Tip two: Pinterest needs keywords…just like google!

Yep, good ‘ol regular keywords and long tail keywords are important within your pin descriptions. Let’s say you write a blog on healthy recipes. Your goal is to make sure your profile description, pin descriptions and pin titles are saturated (without being spammy, of course) with keywords related to healthy recipes.

Tip three: Type healthy recipes (or the keywords you are focusing on) into Pinterest and see what other niche keywords pop up. That will be a great starting point to knowing what other keywords to use on your post.

Make sure you add keywords to your short pin description, too!

How To Start A Blog

In interest of full disclosure, I have been blogging for well over a decade. I’ve had small victories and big victories. I’ve used just about every platform out there.

It’s a great way to make money, meet new friends and tuck web creation under your belt. Today, I’m going to share a couple of tips to help you to start a blog.

Where To Start

If you want to start a business web site, I recommend SiteGround for WordPress.

Going through SiteGround was EASY. I had  my web site up and going in less than half an hour! In fact, I had my first article up by the end of the day, and within a month, I had a pin going viral on Pinterest.

PRO TIP: The reason using a hosted website through SiteGround is recommended over free blogs is that you are able to Monetize because you actually OWN your blog (as apposed to freebie blogs where you are not the owner) and can have more control overall.

Start With  a Basic Plan:

Sign up with SiteGround! They have a step by step process that simplified everything for me.

Once you log into SiteGround, you’ll be asked to pick a particular plan. I recommend starting with  basic plan, then later once you’ve found your groove with blogging you can upgrade your account.

Choose Your Domain Name:

This is your web site address. This is what sets you apart. Ask yourself: What is your goal with your web site? Think of your target audience. For example, I chose Bloggers Share, because I was inspired by the blogging community. So many of my favorite bloggers shared their tips that helped me with my own blogging journey. And now I get to give back by sharing my own tips!

Stick to a niche…or two or three:

I highly recommend finding a niche for your blog to center around. Case in point: I blog about blogging, social media, and simple living. I want to be successful with my blog so that I can enjoy a simple life with my family!

Not sure where to start with topics? Here’s  quick list to get you started:

  • Lifestyle Blogs: Centered around faith, family, fashion.
  • Fashion Blogs: Outfit ideas, make up tips, etc.
  • Health Blogs: Healthy recipes, tips, etc.
  • Teaching Blogs: Tutoring tips, learning worksheets, etc.

After these steps are completed, you may want to read my article on How To Look Like A Pro Blogger When You Are a Newbie!

How to Take Better Blog Photos

I think one of the biggest questions I hear from other bloggers and social media gurus is: “How do I come up with pictures for my blog?”

It’s an honest question and it’s one that I even ask… and  my background is in photography. Having time to take pictures, edit, upload, and of course, try to keep to a theme can be daunting at best.

So, here’s my three tips to take better photos for your blog:

#1 Use Natural Lighting When Taking Photos

The best way to up your photography game is to turn off your flash and use natural lighting. If I am taking pictures inside for Instagram, I will often set up my “photo” next to a window or outside doorway. That way I get the best light possible. I also like to take pictures on my back patio. It’s covered which provides shade, yet still gives me that natural looking light!

If you are using natural lighting for landscape or nature photography try to get outside first thing in the morning. Personally, I love the cool crisp lighting of early mornings (the picture in this article? Was taken early in the early morning hours at the beach).  You can also go for “magic hour” lighting which is typically half an hour before sunset.

#2 Stick To A Specific Style or Theme

Overall, you may want to stick with a pretty specific “style” when it comes to your photography theme. Case in point: I like to take nature photos as it provides a more calming effect to blog visitors, plus I actually enjoy editing them.

However, if you are a fashion blogger, you’ll probably want to stick to unique photos of shoe collections, jewelry, flowers. etc. Or if you are food blogger…well, you get the idea. 😉

#3 Try the Flatlay Look

One of the most flattering and easiest forms of photography is using a flatlay style. How do you get that look? To start, you’ll want to purchase foam boards from your local store. Pure white foam boards work great for this! Then you can style your board. Take the picture shooting straight down to create the flat lay effect. If you follow the first two rules that I shared, you’ll be well on your way to Instagram or blog worthy photos!

BTW….You need to Get in the Photos, too!

Are you wanting to get in your photos more? You may want to invest in a sturdy tripod. Learn to use your timer settings on your camera and then you’ll be set to take pictures of yourself!

You could also do a photo swap with another local blogger, that way you can take photos of each other for your blogs. Sometimes, you just gotta think outside the box.

Easy Social Media Marketing Strategy For Pinterest

Having a solid social media marketing strategy in place for Pinterest is important for bloggers! It can really help you to grow your traffic! Today, I’m going to share a few tips that helped me grow my blog.

I remember the minute my friends told me about Pinterest.  I signed up.

Pinning became somewhat of an Olympic sport…I even had a pin go viral way back when. But, the dust settled and I honestly thought my days of pinning were over.

Then I stumbled on a few bloggers who shared their Pinterest stories.

Had I missed a crucial opportunity for growing as a blogger? Yes. Yes, I had.

I read a free course, downloaded a book on the topic and put what I learned to use.

By implementing just a few habits with Pinterest my numbers now only grew- they doubled and now have nearly tripled in less than a few months!

Here’s some stats:

I started with roughly 6,900 views on Pinterest at the end of May.

By the beginning of August, I had reached 19,000 views. And now, my number vary anywhere from 60k to 90k! It changes due to algorithms.

Pretty cool, right?

But, here’s the thing. While several tricks helped, I noticed that one specific tip is what became my personal game changer.

Pinterest Groups! And not just any groups. Viral groups targeted for bloggers like me. These were groups with 10,000 or more bloggers who participated daily.

TIP: I highly recommend checking out Top Viral Blogs on Pinterest. She has a plethora of viral boards.

Also, another great way to up your Pinterest Game is to check out Pinterest Ninja! You will learn simple ways to build  a solid profile, increase your traffic and gain a better understanding of how Pinterest works. Also, when you complete the course you gain access to valuable resources!
